In today's HyperScale Video Workshop, I unbox the brand new Airfix 1/72 scale Hawker Tempest Mk.V. In this video I explore the kit contents for the very first time and share my impressions. I will be writing up a detailed in-box review shortly. Please note that early in the video I refer to a 2013 Airfix 1/72 Tempest release. I meant to say Typhoon... ah, the joys of single-take videos.

I am greatly saddened to report that prominent Ukrainian artist Valery Grygorenko was killed in a Russian attack near Kviv yesterday. Even if you don't recognise the name you will almost certainly know his work, in particular the striking and distinctive box tops of Roden kits. Our thoughts are with Valery's friends and family, and all those in peril in Ukraine today.

I was checking the stats on HyperScale's main page today and noticed that we have had 436 million visits from 237 different countries since 2010. As this is only around half of HyperScale's lifetime, the total number is likely to be closer to one billion visits in our total history starting in 1998. Amazing numbers!

Tamiya has relesed information on new releases that would have been announced at the 2022 Nuremberg Toy Fair. These include a new 1/48 scale P-38J Lightning. Military annoucements include a 1/48 scale Challenger 2 Tank (Desertised) and 1/48 German Heavy Tank Tiger I Early Prod. (Eastern Front). We'll have more news as it comes to hand.

Hi all. I've been receiving reports again recently about scammers on the Plane Trading Forum. The safest course is to only deal with people who have a HyperScale username AND have a history of posting. You can check how long they have been a registered member by hovering over the member's photo in the left column of the Forum. If you can't find any posts, ask them to send you a Forum Internal Message. New members should be considered suspicious. Anybody who insists that you to pay via PayPal's "Family and Friends" (which is non-refundable) is another red flag. Finally, if a deal looks too good to be true, then it probably is.

1ManArmy has released two more 1/32 mask sets for the HK-Models B-25J Strafer and for the Hobby Boss A-26B Invader. As the kit decals don't offer any maintenance stencils at all, these sets will make it possible to fill this gap. You can find more details here.

Each book offers a brief history of the development of Lavoczkin fighters with wartime photos and color detailed profiles. In today's HyperScale Video Workshop, I unbox the new ARMA Hobby 1/72 scale P-51B/C Mustang. Looks like we may have a definitive 1/72 scale P-51B/C at last. BTW, there is a second style of pilot's seat on the smaller sprue and options for several variations of the F6C reconnaissance Mustang in the box. And the third style of lower cowl panel is louvered! So much to see here...

Ventura Publications has released a revised edition of their "Pacific Corsair" book. It has a number of photos swapped out for new ones and perhaps more important to modellers, the majority of colour profiles have been tweaked based on better information or changing opinions. A Preview page has been posted with 22 sample pages including revised artwork.

I am very sad to report the passing of Mike McEvoy, a legend of the scale model community who is best known for his iconic Tailpiece column in Scale Aircraft Modelling magazine and more recently for his Grumpy Old Modeller website. I was fortunate to meet and chat with Mike on a number of occasions at various Scale Model World shows. I offer my sincere condolences to Mike's family and many friends.
In the description of my unboxing video last Friday, I incorrectly typed 1/72 but the new Airfix Vampire F.3 is of course 1/48 scale. You can still check out the video here on the What's New or on YouTube.

In today's HyperScale Video Workshop, I unbox the new Airfix 1/48 scale de Havilland Vampire F.3 and share my first impressions. BTW, if you want to build an FB.5, it would appear that most of the parts are in the box already, including the clipped wing tips, the long stroke U/C legs, along with the FB.9 style stbd intake acorn which was fitted to some FB.5s. Add some rocket rails from the spares box and after market decals and you'll be there! Thanks to David Roberts for the additional information.
