Revell's 1/32 scale Spitfire Mk.IXc may not be the best of its type out there, but it is certainly good value at much less than half the price of the Tamiya kit. And with some careful corrections and judicious use of after market improvements a good result can be achieved.
However, until now, if you want to build an early version Spitfire Mk.IXc from the Revell kit you have been out of luck, as the early short intake is not supplied in the box.
Happily, Barracuda Studios' has now addressed this omission with their latest accessory for the Revell 1/32 Spitfire Mk.IXc - the Early Under Cowling With Unfiltered Intake.
This is easily distinguished from the later version lower cowl intake as it is noticeably shorter.
The early version conversion comprises just two parts in cream coloured resin. The larger piece is a replacement lower cowl . This is cast with a rebate along each side to improve the fit with the kit's side cowls.
The smaller piece is the intake itself.
The intake is hollow and smooth inside and out.
Instructions are included.
These use text and five captioned colour photos to indicate where the waste resin should be removed and the very minor surgery required to the front of the nose where the lower cowling meets the sides.
This is a useful, significant and relatively straightforward conversion to the early version of the ever-popular Spitfire Mk.IXc.
