First Look.

Advantages:

Great reproduction of schemes in full colour, fabulous decal sheet and an adequate treatment of the development and use of this important WWII aircraft.

Disadvantages:

None noted except making a decision about which one to build!

Conclusions:

This really is a great package and should keep the 1/48th modeller happy for years! Probably best to get together with a mate or three to share the spoils I think! Highly recommended to the fan of these Russian aeroplanes in 1/48.

FirstLook

A thin high gloss cover contains 52 A4 pages of quality semi-gloss paper in landscape format. The cover has a nice CAD illustration of a LaGG-3 downing a Bf109 by what looks like Artur Trzebny.

The book is essentially a compendium of numerous schemes for this very important Russian war-plane, with a six page introduction that traces the development and production history, followed at the rear by six pages of service usage. This is accompanied by a small number of photos and together they sandwich the main part of the book.

This consists of 19 individual two-page full colour four-view drawings of each aircraft that illustrate the different variants and colour schemes used on this aeroplane. These are done to a very high standard and look just fabulous. Each has a short note to give the pilot and the combat area and dates of usage. Each also has colour notes with AMT numbers.

The icing on the cake, so to speak, is a fabulous A4 1/48th scale decal sheet that covers all of the aircraft  illustrated on these 36 pages - 19 planes in total.

These have been printed by Techmod and show great colour density and register, glossy finish and minimal trim film and are printed on a mid-blue background which allows the large number of white images to be easily found - thank you Hussar!

I will not go through and list all of the subjects but sufficient to say that there are eight LaGG-3s from several different production batches, three La-5s, three La-5Fs, four La-5Ns and two La-7s in a variety of attractive schemes.

Conclusion

This really is a great package and should keep the 1/48th modeller happy for years! Probably best to get together with a mate or three to share the spoils I think!

While there are no stencils there are sufficient stars to build every aircraft.

Highly recommended to fans of these WWII Soviet aeroplanes in 1/48.

Thanks to Hussar Productionsfor the sample
