Eduard's 1/48 scale
A6M2 Zero Type 21
by Paolo Portuesi
This year, Eduard gave me the best Christmas gift by sending me his new Zero in 1:48 scale.
Opening the box filled me with joy. This is certainly not the first time I have an Eduard kit in my hands, but few other times a new kit has managed to make me so happy!
In addition, this new kit, the first in a family, is an A6M2 Type 21, of all the Zero versions my favorite for many different reasons, amongst which I have to say that I have always loved its red large markings over its light gray camouflage.
This first edition of this new Eduard kit, called "Tora Tora Tora", is a Dual Combo Limited Edition that, certainly not by chance, was distributed all over the world to coincide with the 80th anniversary of that Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in which the Type 21 played a leading role.
For the assembly, I can only say that I have followed the instructions and used the contents of the box with the sole exception of the “Face” masks for the frames of the canopy, and the weighted wheels and the 3D printing seat by Brassin.
Another deviation from the instructions was to use the AK Real Color No. 303 "Amber Gray" with the addition of 20% white, to ensure some of scale effect.
As for the assembly, I can only say that the new Eduard Zero goes together fabulously. Fit is perfect.
The surface details are very fine with the rivets delicately reproduced in recess.
Transparencies are thin and distortion-free. Decals are second to none.
In conclusion, building this Zero was a relaxing and rewarding experience to the point that I had not yet finished the first one when I started the second.
Kudos to Eduard whose products keep getting better, kit after kit!
