Squadron EagleQuest XXII will be held from Thursday 20 June to Saturday 22 June at the Embassy Suites DFW Airport Outdoor World Hotel, Grapevine Texas. The theme this year will be "The Fabulous 50s - From Tailfins to the Cold War". In addition to the competition, there is also the Welcome Party, the famous raffle, the Squadron warehouse visit, seminars from special guests, the Awards Ceremony Dinner and more. I was a guest at this friendly show in 2010 and 2012, and can recommend it highly. More information may be found by following this link.

My computer failed last Thursday morning. I had everything backed up almost to the minute, but it took me a few days to organise a machine on which to restore the data until my new computer arrives in a few weeks. When I started working on the temporary setup that I had cobbled together, I found that the 2GB of RAM was nowhere near enough to run all my usual web publishing and other Adobe programmes. So it was off to the computer shop again today to upgrade the RAM to 8GB. Now, finally, it seems that I can actually work again. Should be back to regular updates now, minus a bit of catching up!

We arrived back home from the UK yesterday, so it is back to regular programming. In the next few weeks I will be posting some picture galleries and longer videos from the general halls and competiton area of ScaleModelworld 2012, but in the meantime some nice new releases were waiting here when I got back. The first of these is reviewed below:

  • Our third interview from Telford is with Bob Brown from Model Design Constructions, who discusses new releases. I also have some nice footage of the show in general, model company displays, traders and competition entries, which I will be editing into several longer videos upon my return home next week. Also please note that you can change the quality of the video playback all the way up to full HD using the controls on the screen (for some reason it seems to default to a low resolution on the standard screen here). In the meantime, just click the play button to view today's 4 minute 45 second video.

  • Wingnut Wings newest release is now on its website, a 1/32 scale Sopwith Triplane. This may be ordered right now via Wingnut Wings' website.

  • Our next Testor's ScaleWorkshop video from ScaleModelworld 2012 is a conversation with Alistair McLean, who announces the latest releases from A2Zee Models, including its newest brand, Rotorcraft. Just click the play button to view the 5 minute 25 second video:

  • We had a busy and enjoyable weekend at ScaleModelworld. It was a pleasure to meet many HyperScale visitors from the UK, the Continent and also across from the USA; and to catch up with old friends. Some of the highlight announcements from the show were the forthcomng Airfix 1/48 scale Spitfire PR.XIX, Meng 1/35 scale AMX-30B tank, Revell's 1/144 scale new-tool Boeing 747, 1/32 scale British Lynx and 1/32 scale Heinkel He 111 H. We have many photos and lots of video footage that I have already started working through, and these will appear progressively over the coming days and weeks.

  • Tonight, our first report from ScaleModelworld 2012 is an interview with Volker Vahle from Revell Germany, who discusses new and forthcoming releases. Just click the play button below to view the 6 minute 16 second video.

We are just about to set off on the long journey from Sydney to the UK in advance of ScaleModelworld 2012, The IPMS UK Nationals this coming weekend. I'll be reporting from the show with news and interviews, and I look forward to catching up with old friends and meeting more of our visitors.

I am terribly sad to report that "Bondo" Phil Brandt passed away while vacationing in Germany last Thursday. Phil was one of the original contributors to HyperScale, and he generously lent us the experiences of his long military career through his frequent Forum postings. I had the pleasure and privilege of meeting Bondo on a couple of occasions and I can assure you that his real-life demeanour matched his big-hearted online presence. His sense of humour and his first-person insights will be sorely missed by all here. I wish to convey my deepest sympathy to Phil's family and to his many friends.
