Here is my Encore 1/48 scale A-37B Dragonfly
To represent a Guatemala´s air force (FAG) A-37b as they looked after the modernization in the mid 90´s is necessary to modify several parts of the Encore (Ex-Monogram mould) and add some others from scratch.
Most of the work was made on the antennae where several antennas and radomes where removed and new ones were installed, the new radomes where made from milliput and the antennas from plastic sheet.
Also the panel lines were rescribed since the plastic parts are Monogram´s rather old mould. This was done using Dymo tape, scribing templates and sewing needles. This was my first experience doing this and I must say I am very satisfied with the outcome.
The original plastic cockpit was replaced by the resin and PE included in the new Encore model.
The colors used were a mixture of Lichtgrau, Dark Ghost Gray and Schwartzgrau for the gray and Green Drab, Faded Olive and Light Ghost Gray for the green. None of the references were accurate regarding the underside color scheme so a few pictures of the real thing on flight where used as reference.
It is important to note that after the modernization all of the FAG´s A-37s were different either for the camo scheme or the colors applied.
Decals are a mixture of Aztec´s Coin Warriors I and Albatross Ferocious Bugs applied over a coat of Future.
Finally the weathering was done using chalk pastels, a wash was done using artist acrylics and chipping from the leading edges was applied using a sponge and Yellow zinc chromate since in the mid 2000´s these planes looked very wheathered, finally the fuel tank´s caps and FOD screens came from and old but very good Reaheat PE set.
