Model Alliance has added two decal sheets to their existing nine (!) Canberra decal sheets. The focus of these new releases are the "fighter canopy" versions of the Canberra - the B(I)8 and PR.9. These subjects are all covered in Aviation Workshop's recent Canberra On Target Profile 11 book.

The decals under review are in 1/48 scale, but they are also available in 1/72 scale.

The subjects offer good variety of colours and markings. They will be suitable for the forthcoming Classic Airframes 1/48 scale PR.9 Canberra kit.

Here we have markings for three bombers and two PR aircraft:

  • Canberra B(I)8 WT339 88 Sqn Wildenrath

  • Canberra PR.9 XH131 39 Sqn Marham 2005

48146 - RAF B(I)8 & PR.9 Canberras Pt.II

This sheet is packed with decals for four bombers and five PR marking options. A small supplementary sheet is also supplied with the girlie nose art for the two Op Telic subjects. Subjects on the decal sheet are:

  • Canberra B(I)8 WT362/G 14 Sqn Wildenrath 1969;

  • Canberra B(I)8 XM268 16 Sqn Bruggen 1963;

  • Canberra B(I)8  XM268 16 Sqn Bruggen 1963

  • Canberra B(I)8 VX185 Prototype 1854

  • Canberra B(I)8 XH208 3 Sqn Geilenkirchen 1960

  • Canberra PR.9 XH175 39 Sqn Wyton 1979 or 1PRU Wyton 1983;

Walkway lines in four styles (black, red, yellow and red-dashed) are included, but stencils will have to be sourced from the kit or from the Model Alliance generic Canberra decal sheet.

Instructions are once again a highlight of this package. Each are supplied as a stapled, A5 sized eight page booklet with three views of each aircraft. Quality of the artwork and the colour callouts is very good. A handy list of Canberra interior detail colours and reference photos is also included.

The decals themselves are beautifully printed and in perfect register.

The biggest disadvantage is the limited run nature of the Classic Airframes kit for which these decals are designed. Snap 'em up while you can! Hannants has also announced a PR Canberra kit in the 1/72 scale Xtrakits range to be released later this year.

This is another well-presented and interesting release of an attractive subject from Model Alliance.

Highly Recommended.
