Osprey's Modelling the Messerschmitt Bf 109 F and
Early G is available online from

This is a great book for “109” modellers!
It begins with a table of the production variants of Bf 109F and G,
showing their differences. This is accompanied by four colour side-views
and a two-page section of colour photos of details. Then the next
chapter looks at all the kits available at the time of writing, and
comments on the accuracy of those at 1/48 and larger scales.
The first modelling chapter deals with a G-6 built from the Fine Molds
1/72 kit at Moderate level with just the underwing gun gondolas added
from an Academy kit. The second model is a 1/48 F-2 converted from the
older Airfix kit, again at Moderate level with additions from scrap
plastic, brass rod and fuse wire and showing how to achieve a worn
winter white finish.
Following these the book switches to Master level with a 1/32 G-2 built
by combining Hasegawa’s G-4 and G-6 kits with a host of aftermarket
parts and quite a lot of work to install them. Next is another Master
level model, a 1/48 G-12 tandem-seat trainer using Hasegawa’s G-6 and a
Falcon vacform conversion, plus other aftermarket parts. The final model
is an Advanced level G-14 built with the Hobbycraft G-14 kit and many
aftermarket parts.
All of this is well-described and comprehensively shown in colour
photos. There are plenty of useful tips here, not just about how the
models were built but painting techniques too,
Highly recommended to all “109” modellers!
