There can be no doubt that 1/32 scale aircraft have captured the imagination of modellers worldwide. Whether the reason is the greater amount of detail offered, or the failing eyesight of the ageing modelling population, is not as important as the fact that people are actually building these kits.

We have not seen too many figures and accessories for this large scale. 1/32 scale is the same as the well-established figure scale of 54mm, so sculptors do not have to make the leap in size, only subject matter.

Ultracast has answered the call with their newest figure - a 1/32 scale WWII American Navy pilot.

This figure is beautifully sculpted - not surprising when we know that master modeller Mike Good did the work. Casting is also first class. All detail is crisply rendered and there is not a single imperfection to be found anywhere on my sample.

The figure is broken down into six parts - main body (including legs), two arms, a head, a parachute and a tiny delicate chin strap for the flying helmet. These parts are connected to their casting blocks via thin resin strips, which make cleanup fast and painless.

Ultracast's 1/32 scale American Navy Pilot figure will be a welcome companion to any of the emerging range of WWII US Naval aircraft being released in this large scale including the Corsair and Wildcat kits from Trumpeter, Hasegawa's F6F and future offerings. It will also be a very appealing subject as a standalone figure or in a vignette.

Now let's hope that Ultrcast continues to follow this path with some equally well detailed RAF and USAAF pilots!

Highly Recommended
