Tamiya's
1/48 scale A6M3 Zero (with six figures) is available online at
Squadron.com for only USD$12.96
This diorama does not represent a true story, nor is it
copied from any picture. It was built about four years ago solely
according to my imagination.
The main subject is Tamiya's A6M3 Zero.
I must confess it was a very pleasant construction job because I did not
need to add a lot of details or perform tedious tasks such as puttying,
sanding, detailing the cockpit, engine and landing gear as well.
The additional work for this project was sanding inside some areas to
replicate bullet holes, and opening some covers. I made the canopy frames
from thin paper strips. The fabric covered surfaces were replaced using
Evergreen plastic strips.
The figures are from Tamiya and Monogram kits.
The row boat is actually a lifeboat from an old plastic-wooden static kit
Vasa ship, which was released by Czech firm Igra many years ago.
The glass box was glued then refaced by balsa wood. Small stones of
different sizes were glued to the bottom, then a selection of railroad
modelling grasses were added. The "water" is clear plastic sheet that I
also found in railroad modeller´s shop.
