The AN-196 Liutyi is a timely subject and an unusual addition to the growing range of modern unmanned systems now appearing in kit form. Modelsvit has chosen an operationally relevant topic, and the box art presents it to good effect.

Development of the AN-196 Liutyi began in 2022 under Antonov ASTC in cooperation with Ukroboronprom, Ukraine’s state defence industry group. Conceived as a long-range one-way attack system, it is more generally categorised as a loitering munition. By late 2023 the type had entered operational use, and by early 2024 it had reportedly been employed in strikes against targets inside Russian territory.
Modelsvit packages the kit in a compact side-opening box featuring an eye-catching illustration. Inside are 33 crisply moulded parts on two sprues, a small photo-etched fret, wheel masks, and a clear two-part display stand, a welcome inclusion that recalls the presentation style of earlier kits.

The decal sheet is small but sharply printed and provides two finishing options: a serial production machine and a demonstration airframe, both in an overall medium grey paint scheme.

Moulding quality is very good, with minimal flash and finely recessed panel detail. Modelsvit has also included a number of useful options, notably detachable outer wing panels and the ability to display the rear engine access panels open.
With a wingspan of just 140 mm and a length of 117 mm, the finished model is compact, while the modest parts count should make for a straightforward build. It would suit less experienced modellers, while still offering enough interest for the more seasoned builder.
Overall, this is a well-conceived release that combines simplicity, accuracy and sufficient detail in a compact package.

It should appeal to anyone with an interest in current military subjects or unusual unmanned aircraft.
