Eduard has already released a number of related accessories in their BRASSIN range in conjunction with its new-tool 1/48 scale P-40N Warhawk as reviewed on HyperScale last year.

One of these is a replacement cockpit.

The kit cockpit is very good, with a high level of detail and colour photo-etched parts supplied for the instrument panel and harness straps. However, Eduard's BRASSIN cockpit really kicks it up a notch.

Eduard's BRASSIN 1/48 scale P-40N cockpit comprises 24 3d printed pieces in grey resin, one small decal sheet, one clear acetate sheet, plus instructions.

Printing quality is perfect on my sample. Cleanup will be fairly straightforward as most parts are printed on fine resin strips, so a sharp knife and a swipe with a sanding stick will be all that is required.

 

 

The seat is printed with the harness straps in place. The drape looks convincing.

The cockpit floor, sidewalls and the rudder pedals are all impressive.

 

 

Three alternative parts are supplied for the instrument panel. These have been specifically made for different sub-variants of the P-40N.

A small transparent acetate sheet delivers gunsight lenses.

 

 

With the parts removed from their strips, assembly is very straightforward.

 

 

Eduard supplies a small decal sheet with instrument dial overlays and placards - nice touch.

 

 

Painting will be the fun part. For my cockpit, I will paint a base colour , then dry-brushed with a paler shade, followed by a mix of Future Floor Polish, water and a few spots of Tamiya XF-1 Flat Black as an overall wash. This thin wash clings to the edges of details and settles in recesses to create a nice shadow effect.

Details will be picked out with Vallejo acrylics and a fine brush.

Installation should be trouble free.

Detailed illustrated instructions are included.
