Advantages:

Beautifully detailed; perfectly printed and cast; one-piece engine cowling; main engine is printed as a single part; noticeable upgrade to the Airfix engine and cowling.

Disadvantages:

None noted.

Conclusions:

This beautifully detailed engine and cowling will add a new universe of detail to the front end of your Airfix 1/48 scale Lysander kit. Printing is perfect. Cleanup and assembly will be very straightforward.

S.B.S Model has released an engine and cowling set for the recent Airfix 1/48 scale Lysander Mk.I / Mk. III kit.

 

 

The set is made up from 13 x 3d printed parts, but the small count does not imply any lack of detail. Quite the opposite in fact.

The cylinder faces, cooling fins, crank case housing, pushrods and more are moulded as a single piece.

 

 

The cowl flaps are also moulded as one piece each. They have ample detail inside and out.

 

 

The cowl flaps are printed open.

 

 

The resin one-piece cowlings are beautifully detailed inside and out.

 

 

Removal of the parts from their printing bases should be fast and easy using a new hobby blade and/or a razor saw.

 

 

Printing quality is perfect too.

 

 

Ten smaller resin arts are also in the box. These include intakes, exhausts, engine mount and more.

 

 

A few lengths of 0.5mm wire are required for the rods.

 

 

The package is rounded out with a small photo-etched fret. These include cowling braces.

 

 

A small instruction sheet provides exact assembly sequence, referring back to the kit parts as required.

 

 

Painting directions are not included.

 

 

Conclusion

 

This beautifully detailed engine and cowling will add a new universe of detail to the front end of your Airfix 1/48 scale Lysander kit. Printing is perfect. Cleanup and assembly will be very straightforward.
