Kinetic's 1/48 scale
F-84F Thunderstreak
Suez Crisis

by David Couche

F-84F Thunderstreak

Description

This is the 1/48 scale Kinetic F-84F Thunderstreak, which was the first ever kit produced by Kinetic Models.

The detail is reasonably good, and it went together well.

I wanted to do a Suez Crisis aircraft from Operation Musketeer and Kadash, but there are no decals for it in 1/48, so it was off to the drawing tools with Illustrator to produce all of the decals required.

Operation Musketeer (French: Opération Mousquetaire) was the Anglo-French plan for the invasion of the Suez canal zone to capture the Suez Canal during the Suez Crisis in 1956. The aircraft I built was originally a French aircraft who then “loaned” a number to the Israelis, which were stationed at Lod Air Base. They had the tricolour roundels replace with the Star of David’s and the tail tricolour marking was painted out.

The creation of the artwork was challenging at times with the complex nature of the 2 Squadron badges, a different one on each side of the fuselage.

All markings are painted and the only commercial decals used are the Israeli Star of David’s, everything else has been created in house by my trusty ALPS printer.

Paints were all SMS paints and they went on beautifully.
