FirstLook

Ventura Decals has a new release focusing on British WWII fighter prototypes.

Six subjects are covered in 1/48 scale. The Hurricane is finished in bare metal and silver dope.

The other five subjects are finished in the Day Fighter Scheme of Dark Green and Ocean Grey upper surfaces and Medium Sea Grey below. All five wear the distinctive yellow P inside a yellow circle, indicating Prototype status.

The set is made up from one small decal sheet and a double sided A4 folded instruction sheet on glossy paper.

The instructions offer eleven captioned reference photos. All the subjects are covered in the photos.

Decals and instructions are packed in a clear zip-lock plastic bag.

The glossy decal sheet is printed by BOA Decals in the Czech Republic. The colour and saturation look great, and carrier film is thin. These should go down beautifully on your model.

Specific subjects are as follows:

  • Hawker Tempest Mk.V, HM595, with it’s original Typhoon style fin and rudder, September 1942

  • Hawker Hurricane prototype, at this stage with smaller 27 inch fuselage roundels

The first Hawker Fury prototype, NX798, depicted as it flew in September 1944 with a Bristol Centaurus XII engine

  • Hawker Fury prototype LA610 fitted with a Rolls Royce Griffon 85 engine, October 1944

  • Hawker Typhoon R8694 was fitted with a Napier annular radiator

  • The sole Hawker Tempest Mk.I, HM599, with it’s original Typhoon style fin and rudder, September 1942

A single set of roundels is supplied for the Hurricane.

Conclusion

This new release offers six welcome 1/48 scale decal options for British WWII fighter prototypes.

Recommended.
