This set is stunning in its research and decal presentation. Sets like this don’t come around very often with the meticulous research data it includes, and I might even  go out on a limb here and suggest that if you like the marking choices provided you may want to purchase these quickly as this set will only go up in value as it is a reference goldmine.

FirstLook

I have always had a passion for decal sheets. I guess it stems from wanting something a little different from the norm or a particular scheme that grabs me that is not included in the kit.

As we all know, decal sheets can vary in quality with some being poorly researched and others having poor register. It can be a bit hit and miss when purchasing them.

This new Limited Edition decal set is a little different. It covers 14 different marking choices for the Zero from the early  Type 1to the laterTtype 52 and A6M2-N floatplane, with three beautifully decal sheets printed by Microscale decal sheets covering the marking choices together with the stencils and the Hinomaru on the other. All the marking choices are provided in full colour, which is always a plus.

The thing that separates this set from the rest is the meticulous research that has gone into not only the marking choices but the various colour variations of the different marks of the Zero fighter.

A 14 page reference package is included and covers intriguing details like the tint of Grey J3 used on early examples to the Hinomaru tints and their locations.

Propeller, cockpit landing gear and even wheel colours are discussed. Moreover, this research paper even examines the difference between the Mitsubishi and Nakajima built machines, the nameplates on the rear fuselage, conformation of aerial kills and even down to an  examination of the radios used on the type.

Each aircraft featured is examined in detail giving stories, engagements and pilots who piloted them. One type 11, seven type 21 and three type 52s are provided for together with one floatplane. The decal sheet even suggest the kits that may be used from the Hasegawa or Tamiya and Eduard kits.

Conclusion

This set is both stunning in its research and decal presentation. Sets like this don’t come around very often with the meticulous research data it includes, and  I might even  go out on a limb here and suggest that if you like the marking choices provided you may want to purchase these quickly as this set in my opinion will only go up in value as it is a reference gold mine.

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to Lifelike Decals for these samples.
