Fantasy Printshop has released a new decal set covering Spitfires operating over Malta.
The modeller has plenty of choice for the Mk.IX but there is currently no kit of the Mk.Vc straight from the box. In a feat of good timing though, Laminar Flow has just released a 1/32 scale Mk.Vc conversion based on the Tamiya Spitfire Mk.IXc.
We'll have more news in ths one soon!
The Hobby Boss 1/32 scale Spitfire Mk.Vb kit is the logical option for this variant (not great, but available) or the 1992-vintage Hasegawa kit.
Three of the options are Spitfire Mk.Vc while the remaining one is Mk.IXc.
Four options are offered. Schemes vary and there are some interesting - and very non-standard - camouflage and markings.
The set is made up from one decal sheet and full colour A4 colour instructions sheets packed in a clear zip-lock plastic bag.
The glossy decal sheet is printed by Fantasy Printshop. The colour and saturation look great, and carrier film is thin. These should go down beautifully on your model.
Specific subjects are as follows:
-
Mk.Vc Trop, JK715, ‘SN-A’ of 243 Sqn in 1942, in Dark Mediterranean Blue over Azure Blue,
-
Mk.Vc Trop, BR190, ‘A-2’ of 603 Sqn, April-May 1942 in standard Temperate Sea Scheme,
-
Mk.Vb Trop, EP691, ‘X-A’ of 229 Sqn in 1943 in Deep Sky/Dark Slate Grey over Light Mediterranean Blue,
-
Mk IXc EN479 ’N’ of 126 Sqn , June 1943 in Deep Sky/Dark Slate Grey over Medium Sea Grey, and
Instructions are supplied in colour on A4 paper. Each of the four subjects have both side views plus upper and lower plan views.
There appear to be four full sets of national markings.
This new release offers four interesting options for colourful and unique Spitfire Mk.Vb, Vc Trop and Mk.IX markings.
Recommended.
Thanks to Fantasy Printshop for the sample.
