FirstLook

Fantasy Printshop has released a new decal set covering Spitfire Mk.Vb and Vc Trop aircraft operating over Malta. These will be suitable for the Hobby Boss 1/32 scale Spitfire Mk.Vb kit (not great, but available) or the 1992-vintage Hasegawa kit.

One of the options is a Spitfire Mk.Vb while the remaining three are Mk.Vc. Please note that there are no Spitfire Mk.Vc kits currently available, although Laminar Flow Aviation is working on a conversion for Tamiya's 1/32 scale Spitfire Mk.IXc at the moment.

Four options are offered. Schemes vary and there are some interesting - and very non-standard - camouflage and markings.

The set is made up from one decal sheet and full colour A4 colour instructions sheets packed in a clear zip-lock plastic bag.

The glossy decal sheet is printed by Fantasy Printshop. The colour and saturation look great, and carrier film is thin. These should go down beautifully on your model.

Specific subjects are as follows:

  • Mk. Vb Trop, BR586 ’T-M’ of 249 Sqn in 1943 in Identification Blue over Azure Blue,

  • Mk.Vc Trop, BR124, ‘U-2’ , 20/04/1942, in Dark Mediterranean Blue over Sky Blue,

  • Mk.Vc Trop, BR126, ‘GL-E’ Gibraltar, June 1942 in Dark Mediterranean Blue over Sky Blue,

  • Mk.Vc Trop, Br344, ‘3-M’, April 1942, in Deck Blue/ Non-specular Intermediate Blue over Azure Blue,

Instructions are supplied in colour on A4 paper. Each of the four subjects have both side views plus upper and lower plan views.

There appear to be four full sets of national markings.

Conclusion

This new release offers four interesting options for colourful and unique Spitfire Mk.Vb Trop markings.

Recommended.

Thanks to Fantasy Printshop for the sample.
