Bullseye Model Aviation has given us the 7th set of F-4 decals in the series. This time it’s for the F-4J and it gives us 6 Mig killer aircraft that are less known that model companies and decal producers normally give us.

The package, in the usual heavy A4 size zip lock bag, supplies us with 2 sheets of decals and an A4 instruction booklet. The decal sheets are printed by Cartograf, so you can expect the usual ease of use, great settling down qualities as well as being in excellent register.

The instruction booklet is a matt colour printed 8-page booklet. The back cover has some photographs of those real aircraft.  I normally would have included photos of these aircraft as part of the review but could find none on the internet to add. The next 2 pages have side profiles of the 6 aircraft, accompanied by useful brief notes and positional help.

Following on is a double page of stencil and painting guides, as well as the load outs for each of these aircraft on their missions. Whilst similar, these load outs were varied as to what drop tanks, and missile loads the carried. This will enable you to build the model historically accurate.

All aircraft are the standard Gull Grey and White schemes of that period of the Vietnam War.

Lastly, there is a double page of written comprehensive notes on these aircraft and their crews and includes a photo section at the bottom of the second page. These notes describe the action of the missions in which they claimed their Migs.

The aircraft in this set are:

  1. F-4J, Bu No 155769, NG 106, “Showtime 106”, VF-96 Fighting Falcons, USS Constellation (CV-64), 1972

  2. F-4J, Bu No 157269, NG 211, “Silver Kite 211”, VF-92 Silver Kings, USS Constellation (CV-64), 1972

  3. F-4J, Bu No 155875, NK 201,” Dakota 201”, VF-142 Ghostriders, USS Constellation (CV-64), 1970

  4. F-4J, Bu No 157307, AC 106, “Bandwagon 106”, VF-31 Tomcatters USS Saratoga, (CV-60), 1972

  5. F-4J, Bu No 155553, AE 212, “Rootbeer 212”, VF-33 Tarsiers, USS America (CV-66), 1968

  6. F-4J, Bu No 155538, AE 102, “Milkvine 102”, VF-102 Diamondbacks, USS America (CV-66), 1968

All of these aircraft have a good story to tell, and they make interesting reading.

Another very nice, high-quality decal set from Bullseye Model Aviation.

It is suitable for Tamiya, Academy and Zoukei-Mura kits. Bullseye supply a good deal of reference material needed to build these models accurately for those missions gaining Mig kills.

A quick note, if you’re doing them on the day of the kill mission, there won’t be kill markings on the aircraft….yet!

With the production quality of Cartograf and the historical accuracy that Bullseye provide this is a great set of decals to have.

Highly Recommended.
