Advantages:

Beautifully detailed; perfectly printed and cast; main engine is printed as a single part; noticeable upgrade to the HK Models engines and cowlings.

Disadvantages:

None noted.

Conclusions:

These beautifully detailed engines will add a new universe of detail to the front end of your HK Models' 1/48 scale B-17F/G kits. Printing is perfect. Cleanup and assembly will be very straightforward.

S.B.S Model has released a set of four B-17F/G (Early) Engines and Nacelle Cowlings for the 1/48 scaleHK Models kit.

 

 

The set is made up from 20 x 3d printed parts, but the small count does not imply any lack of detail. Quite the opposite in fact.

The cylinder faces, cooling fins, crank case housing, pushrods and more are each moulded as a single piece.

 

 

A resin hub adapter is supplied for the propeller shafts.

 

 

The cowl flaps are also moulded as one piece each. They are depicted open, with ample detail inside and out.

 

 

The cowl flaps are keyed to particular positions. These are embossed onto the cowl flap bases, so don't get them mixed up!

 

 

A resin mounting adapter is supplied for each of the cowl flap parts.

The resin cowlings are the final piece of the package. Once again these are beautifully detailed inside and out.

 

 

Removal of the parts from their printing bases should be fast and easy using a new hobby blade and/or a razor saw.

 

 

Printing quality is perfect too.

 

 

A small instruction sheet provides exact assembly sequence, referring back to the kit parts as required.

 

 

Painting directions are not included.

 

 

Conclusion

 

This beautifully detailed engine will add a new universe of detail to the front end of your HK Models' 1/48 scale B-17F/G kits. Printing is perfect. Cleanup and assembly will be very straightforward.
