Resin2detail produces 3d printed resin parts in 1/72, 1/48 and 1/32 scale for a wide range of WWII aircraft upgrades.

Today we will be looking at their Quick Fix R-1820 engine front in 1/48 scale.

The Wright R-1820 Cyclone was fitted to a wide range of WWII fighters, bombers and transports. The R-1820 was at the heart of many famous aircraft including early Douglas airliners (the prototype DC-1, the DC-2, the first civil versions of the DC-3, and the limited-production DC-5), every wartime example of the Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress and Douglas SBD Dauntless bombers, the early versions of the Polikarpov I-16 fighter (as the M-25), and the Piasecki H-21 helicopter.

The R-1820 also found limited use in armoured vehicles. The G-200 variant developed 900 hp (670 kW) at 2,300 rpm and powered the strictly experimental M6 Heavy Tank.

They don't come much simpler than this. The engine front is supplied as a single 3D printed resin part but this does not imply any lack of detail.

To the contrary, detail on the engine front is exquisite.

The super-detailed Wright R-1820 Cyclone Fast Fix engine front includes intricate ingnition harness wiring, detailed crank case, magnetos and splined propeller shaft.

There is very little, if any, cleanup at the back of the engine.

Conclusion

RESIN2detail's 1/48 scale Wright R-1820 Cyclone Quick Fix engine upgrade will deliver a real improvement in detail at a reduced effort on the modeller's part.

You won't have any difficulty preparing and installing RESIN2detail's 3d printed engine if you have worked on 3d conversions before.

This engine is a must for anyone adding detail to their Flying Fortress or other R-1820 powered aircraft.
