SPACE Set - 3D printed and colour photo-etched parts.

Mask Set - self-adhesive, die-cut masks for clear parts and wheels.

Review Type: FirstLook
Advantages: High level of detail that will result in an impressive Mi-4.
Disadvantages:
Recommendation: The use of the Zoom photo-etched fret will result in a noticeably better detailed cockpit, especially around the instrument panel and side consoles. The addition of the photo-etched harness straps will also be a highly visible upgrade. The 3D printed and photo-etched SPACE cockpit upgrade is a legitimate alternative to the ZOOM PE. The masks will save you a lot of time and add sharp precision to the clear parts too! These are very useful investments for your Trumpeter 1/48 scale Mi-4.

FirstLook

Eduard has produced a range of accessories for the recent ICM 1/32 scale Yak-9T.

Tonight I review four of Eduard's useful upgrades.

FE1320 - Eduard Zoom Mi-4 for the Trumpeter kit. USD$19.95

Even the entry-level Zoom series offers super detail with one colour photo-etched fret providing detail focused on the cockpit.

Specifically, the set supplies a replacement layered instrument panel, side and ceiling consoles, throttle, switches, knobs and more.

This represent great value for the big helo cockpit.

This will be a very visible update for Trumpeter's 1/48 scale Mi-4.

FE1321 - Mi-4 Seat Belts for Trumpeter kit. USD$10.95

This new photo-etched fret supplies a full photo-etched harness for the seats in Trumpeter's 1/48 scale Mi-4.

Details are picked out, with stitching and hardware printed directly onto the photo-etched straps and mounts.

The half-tone rendering of shadows is also very well done.

This harness set will be the ideal accompaniment to the Zoom cockpit detail set reviewed above.

3DL48095 - Eduard SPACE Mi-4 for Trumpeter kit. USD$19.95

This SPACE set comprises 3D printed decals for the instrument panel, side consoles and smaller details, plus photo-etched parts for the two-tone harness straps, handles and more.

The 3D printed decals look really good in real life - better than my much larger-than-life studio photos!

I have used a few of SPACE sets and I have been very pleased with the results. I found that the 3D decals barely needed to be wet at all before they would slide - or sometimes fall - off the backing sheet.

I used Gator’s Grip acrylic glue to secure the 3D printed decals to the plastic kit parts. Detailed instructions are included.

EX9103 Masks Mi-4 for Trumpeter Kit. USD$12.95

Die-cut, self-adhesive masks for the canopy and wheels.

These represent a fast and accurate solution for a time consuming and often disliked modelling task on the large glasshouse canopy of the Mi-4.

Conclusion

The use of the Zoom photo-etched fret will result in a noticeably better detailed cockpit, especially around the instrument panel and side consoles.

The addition of the photo-etched harness straps will also be a highly visible upgrade.

The 3D printed and photo-etched SPACE cockpit upgrade is a legitimate alternative to the ZOOM PE - the choice is yours..

The masks will save you a lot of time and add sharp precision to the clear parts too! These are very useful investments for your Trumpeter 1/48 scale Mil Mi-4.
