FirstLook

Eduard has released a folded wing conversion set for its 1/48 scale F4F-4 Wildcat kit.

The conversion comprises four parts in grey coloured injection moulded plastic, ten parts in grey 3D printed resin, four parts on one brass etched photo-etched fret and illustrated instructions.

The plastic sprue contains a set of upper and lower wing parts.

The 3D printed pieces are beautifully detailed with crisp and complex detail in the inner and outer wing fold areas.

Parts are mounted on many fine strips, which taper even thinner at the actual attachment points. These should be easy to remove but plan on a bit of extra time for cleaning up any waste.

This very high level of detail is all printed with the minimum number of parts.

In fact, the most challenging aspect to this project will probably be cutting the wing parts and thinning the plastic by 0.6mm on the inside of the wing surfaces. Just take your time with the plastic parts preparation and it should work out fine. Even so, it is a comfort to know that you'll have a spare set of wings if something does go wrong!

The photo-etched parts apper to be warning tabs on the wings.

A set of 3d printed crank handles are also included.

There is a small amount of DIY for the hydraulic lines, but assembly should be very straightforward once the plastic and 3D printed parts are cleaned up.

An illustrated set of instructions round out the package..

Conclusion

This is a truly transformative option for your Eduard 1/48 scale Wildcat.

Thanks to Eduard for the samples.
