More resin! This time it's the Blackburn Buccaneer S.Mk.1 in the only scale that matters. This kit from Scale Resin (CMR Moulding & Casting) is beautifully detailed, even more so than the S.2B kit from CMR that I built several years ago. These multi-media kits include pretty much everything you need - there is little, if any, need for aftermarket accessories.
In addition to the resin components, the kit includes a photoetch fret primarily for the cockpit, ejection seat details, antennae, windscreen wiper, wing fold details, wing hinge covers, windscreen demister, canopy support, some structural members, radar details, etc. Also supplied was a vacuform canopy that needed to be cut in two to pose open as I did.
I chose to model the Buccaneer as one of the aircraft performing carrier deck trials aboard HMS Ark Royal in 1963. That meant an overall anti-flash white scheme, and let me tell you that white is my least favourite colour to paint. The anti-flash white is Testors RLM21 semi-gloss white, and other paints used are primarily Mr. Hobby aqueous colours. Post shading was done with Mr. Hobby Smoke Grey.
This was built pretty much out of the box, the only extra things I did were:
-
Modifying the ejection seats for lateral offset between front and rear seats
-
Adding the jury struts
-
Removing the strengthening plates from air brake petals
I hope you enjoy the photos! I’ve included a couple of in-progress shots to better show the weapons bay and the ejection seats.
