Advantages: |
High quality moulding; finely recessed panel lines; optional position wings (extended or folded) with no cutting required; entry door and bomb bay doors may be posed open; clear parts moulded to accurately depict canopy bulges; straightforward parts breakdown; improved packaging (sprues in multiple plastic bags); high quality decals produced by Fightertown Decals. |
Disadvantages: |
Simplified interior; lack of detail on searchlight; missing landing light. |
Recommendation: |
In summary, this is a well detailed Tracker that allows the modeller to build many versions. It looks impressive and has a nice wing fold. The kit is an exceptional build and the finished model will look great in particular with the wings folded. And even better, it is $10 less now than it was when it was released a decade ago!. |

The Netherlands Naval Aviation Service, the air arm of the Royal Netherlands Navy received 28 S-2A (S2F-1) aircraft from the US Navy in 1960 and an additional 17 de Havilland Canadian built CS-2A (CS2F-1) aircraft formally operated by the Royal Canadian Navy between 1960 and 1961. These aircraft were operated from Valkenburg Naval Air Base and the light aircraft carrier Karel Doorman until a fire took the ship out of service.
In 1968 a total of 18 aircraft were converted to S-2N standard by Fairy Canada for Anti-Submarine Warfare and Maritime Reconnaissance use with 1 Sqn based at Hato International Airport. 4 of these aircraft were then converted to US-2N standards in May1971. Most of the de Havilland Canada built CS-2As were scrapped by 1970 or used for ground instruction. The last Tracker was withdrawn from service in January 1978 with some transferred to the Turkish Navy.
The Kinetic Tracker is made up from more than 220 grey plastic parts and 10 clear parts.
The Kinetic Grumman Tracker S-2A was first released in 2013 and reviewed by Brett Green and then the S-2A/E/G was released in 2018 and reviewed by me. There are no new parts in this kit so I will not repeat the detail in these reviews.
