Well-moulded with sufficient detail for this scale, good decals and clear instructions.

Certainly an oddity but if your interest is in the final months of Japan’s conflict with the Allies, then this is a model for you. A well-moulded and produced package that will be a very quick build.

Background

An extraordinary choice for a kit given its purpose and the fact that probably only three were built and none used in anger, thank heavens! The "Ta"-Go was a purpose-built special attack plane. It was of wooden construction with a 100hp engine to carry a 100kg bomb.

The first machine was assembled by students and completed on June 25, 1945. ( info from WWW.aviatar.org), and this is the second Ta-Go kit from BrenGun, the first being in 1/144 in 2020. Plans were for hundreds of these to be built but the war ended long before they could be started.

FirstLook

The kit comes in a sturdy end-opening box with a clear illustration of a piloted plane on the cover and the single colour scheme on the rear.

Inside is a single sprue for a surprisingly large airframe comprising 38 mid-grey parts and one transparency, plus a small decal sheet containing the six hinomaru, an instrument decal and tail symbols. Instructions are in black and white on both sides of a folded A4 sheet with colour call-outs along the way.

Parts are cleanly moulded with no sign of flash, sprue gates are minimal and there is sufficient interior structure to satisfy in this scale given the rudimentary design of the original.

The small parts counts and simple construction and paint scheme should make this an ideal weekend job.

The sole example is in IJR 43 Black Olive Drab overall.

Conclusion

If this is your interest area then it will be a quick build and comes recommended for these reasons.
