Xtradecal has just released two brand new 1/24 scale decal sets covering the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IX. These are intended for the forthcoming Airfix kit.
Today I am reviewing Part Two.
Five subjects are offered.
Details are as follows:
-
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXe, MK392, 'JE.J' flown by Wing Commander James Edgar 'Johnnie' Johnson, OC of No.144 Wing, RAF, based at RAF Ford, June, 1944.
-
Supermarine Spitfire FR.Mk.IXc, MK915, 'V', of 16 Squadron, RAF, based at Bayeux, France, September, 1944.
-
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc, EN459, 'ZX.1', of 145 (Polish) Squadron, RAF, based at Goubrine, Tunisia, April, 1943.
-
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXb, MK321, '2I.H', flown by Squadron Leader Henry McLeod, C.O of 443 (RCAF) Squadron, RAF, based at RAF Westhampnett, April, 1944.
-
Supermarine Spitfire Mk.IXc, 'WD.M', of 4th Fighter Squadron, 52nd Fighter Group USAAC, based at Poretta, Corsica, May, 1944.
Two of the subjects are camouflaged in the Day Fighter Scheme with Medium Sea Grey lower surfaces and an upper surface disruptive scheme of RAF Dark Green and Ocean Grey, two more in tropical colours of Mid Stone and Dark Earth upper surfaces (one in a non-standard pattern), and one in overall PRU Pink.
National markings are included for the PR-style roundels and the USAAF option. Otherwise, kit decals will be used for standard RAF-style national markings.
Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across a single folded double-sided A4 and one double-sided A5 sheet.
Both side views, upper and lower views are provided for all five subjects.
Colour notes are offered, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.
The decals are perfectly printed and feature thin carrier film.
This release will offer welcome variety for anyone building the forthcoming Airfix 1/24 scale Spitfire Mk.IX kit..
