F-14A Tomcat
Eduard, 1/48 scale
Reviewed by Brett Green
Eduard latest 1/48 scale decals cover five new marking options for the F-14A Tomcat in the 1980s and 1990s.
These have been specifically designed for the lovely Tamiya kit.
All but ones are finished in the then-current US Navy scheme of Light Gull Grey overall. The Jolly Rogers option is finished in Dark Gull Grey with the tail section and some of the lower fuselage in Light Gull Grey.
There is plenty of variety in the tail and nose markings and some truly iconic units covered.
The five specific subjects are as follows:
-
BuNo. 160390, VF-84 Jolly Rogers, USS Nimitz, 1993.
-
BuNo. 161601, VF-21 Freelancers, USS Constellation, 1987
-
BuNo. 161621, VF-111 Sundowners, USS Cark Vinson, 1999.
-
BuNo. 162589, VF-124 Gunfighters, NAS Mirimar, 1987.
-
BuNo.161856, VF-211 Fighting Checkmates, USS Nimitz, 1997.
The instructions are supplied on six A5-sized pages in full colour. Each subject is covered in four view illustrations - two sides, top and bottom.
Colour callouts are provided for Gunze acrylics, Mr Color lacquers and Mission Models paints.
Three decal sheets are included. They have been printed by Eduard in the Czech Republic.
The decal sheets are glossy and well printed with perfect registration on my sample.
National markings are included on the sheet.
Stencil markings are not included, but they are offered on a separate dedicated sheet.
Eduard's decals offer some colourful alternatives for anyone building Tamiya's superb 1/48 scale F-14A Tomcat.
Thanks to Eduard for the sample.
