FirstLook

This Canadian company has produced a nice sheet for four unusual C-47s from the late and post WWII period. One is actually a C-53 which was a troop transport version of the C-47 and a section of the instructions shows the modeller how to modify a model to this configuration - pretty simple for most of us. Another is a Dakota MKIII, with  different antenna fit.

The sheet comes in a clear zip-lock bag. The instructions are on both sides of an A4 sheet and are in colour with annotations of important features. No paint manufacturers are named, just the general colours. The decals themselves are nicely printed in semi-gloss and have excellent density and register  with minimal carrier film. I cannot comment on the density of the white areas but it looks good on the sheet.

The four choices are:

  1. RCAF Dakota MkIII of 115 ATU serving the United Nations in Sinai around 1960 in overall white with numerous UN markings and red titles,

  2. C-47B 45-0884 of Carco Air Services carrying equipment to nuclear test sites in 1955, in natural metal with both civil and USAF markings,

  3. 12009, a C-53 used on the Greenland-Iceland-Scotland route in Northeast Airlines marks when army pilots were scarce , in dark Olive Drab over Neutral Grey, and

  4. 348777, C-47 used by the Military Air Attache: American Legation, Wellington, in 1947 in an unusual overall Dark Olive Drab.

Each aircraft is illustrated with a port profile and a top view to show decal placement. This is an interesting quartet and should be a popular choice by modellers.

Conclusion

Recommended to those modellers looking for something bit different for their C-47/Dakota and these decals should suit any of the available 1/72 kits.
