Adlerangriff ExpertenMesserschmitt Bf 109 E-4
Eduard, 1/48 & 1/32 scales
Reviewed by Graham Carter
I am reviewing these two sets together as they are identical except for the scale. These two sheets are designed for the Eduard kits of the Bf109E-4 but will presumably fit any kit of this popular subject. Packaged in a resealable clear envelope with a card insert to protect the sheets from damage, the subjects are beautifully printed with excellent colour density and register. They have a gloss finish and very little carrier film. On the review sample both full and split up swastikas are provide but I presume the full ones will be cut off for sale in countries where these are verboten.
There are six choices in each set which concentrates on, as its title states, expert pilots all with quite substantial kill totals on their aircraft. The five subjects are all from the early part of the war in the air over France between August and December 1940 and all aircraft are decorated with yellow noses and varied yellow patches on the rudders :
-
Bf 109 E-4/N WNr 5819 - Obstlt. Adolf Galland CO of JG26 December ,
-
Bf 109 E-4/B WNr 2030 - Hptm. Herbert Ihlefeld, CO of I.(J)/LG 2, Autumn,
-
Bf 109 E-4 WNr 1432 - Oblt. Walter Oesau , CO of 7./JG51, August
-
Bf 109 E-4 WNr 5344 - Hptm. Helmut Wick, CO of I/JG2, October ,
-
Bf 109 E-4 WNr 5344 - Maj. Helmut Wick, CO of JG2, November, and
-
Bf 109 E-4 WNr 5344 - Maj. Werner Mölders, CO of JG51, August.
Sufficient crosses and swastikas are provided for three choices to be completed from the 1/48 sheet and for two from the 1/32 sheet. obviously, by using the kit or other generic sources for these items, then all subjects can be built. Decal instructions are to Eduard’s excellent standard with each subject covered by an A5 four-view colour drawing with colours named and numbered for MMP, C and H.
All subjects have the contemporary scheme of RLM 71/02 over 65 with a high demarcation but varied application of mottles to cover much of the lower fuselage sides, extending to the upper wings of Ihlefeld’s mount.
This is a quality set of decals which will enable to modeller to produce models of some of the most accomplished Bf109 pilots’ aeroplanes from the early year of the aerial conflict over Europe. An image of the 1/32 sheet of individual markings in included.
Thanks to Eduard for the sample.
