Review Type: |
First Look. |
Advantages: |
A simple conversion set, beautifully cast and nicely detailed. Well packaged to minimise damage to parts. |
Disadvantages: |
None noted, although a possible issue arises from the weight of the tanks and the strength of the undercarriage and wing joints. |
Conclusions: |
Highly recommended to the USN Hornet modeller. |

The small but strong box contains ten grey resin parts and a small PE set for the fins make up this set which will enable the production of a USN Super Hornet tanker version with four wing mounted tanks and the central supply ‘Buddy Pack’ delivery tank. I am not sure if these fittings were/are used by other forces using the Super Hornet or if this set will be used on other aircraft types.
The supply tanks themselves will simply have to be separated from their substantial but finely attached attached pour-cores and attached to the appropriate kit wing pylons.
The delivery tank will require a bit more work as it has five resin parts that need to be joined up - front and rear body, rear drogue, overflow /pressure release valve(?) and a choice of two different nose rotors which need to have the four PE blades attached. I would recommend adding these when the nose is attached to the body as the rotor cap is very small, as are the blades. This is then attached to a centre-line pylon.
All parts are beautifully cast as we expect from Brengun with excellent surface detail - panels and attachment points are finely cast. No bubbles and minimal resin flash are apparent. Instructions are small but clear. Colour details indicate that the whole lot are painted the undersurface colour.
The only caveat is that the five tanks weigh quite a bit and you might consider reinforcing the undercarriage legs or use white metal replacements, and even the wing-joints might need pinning.
Thanks to Brengun for the review samples.
