TG Decals, a relatively new company from Guatemala first came to notice in 2019. Their 5th offering is a set of colourful Guatemalan P-51D’s. The set gives you 2 sheets of decals. The sheets are crisply printed and appear to be in excellent register. They are printed locally in Guatemala so a test decaling is needed to see you they lay down. Both the 1/48 and 1/72 sets are identical. At the moment, their Facebook page shows no signs of a 1/32 version.
Included is a set of vinyl masks for the painting of some of the intricate markings for these machines.
Instructions and profiles comes as 3 double sided A4 glossy sheets. There is one page with instructions for the placement and use of the vinyl masks and respective painting instructions. The text for these instructions are in both English and Spanish. The instructions has one page of side profiles, both port and starboard to remove doubts of mirrored markings, as well as a page of upper and lower views. TG Decals leave no doubts as to where all marking should go.
The set gives you 6 different schemes for the Guatemalan Mustangs.
Three of these schemes are for their aerobatic teams, the “Piratas” at different periods of times.
The schemes are:
-
P-51D, 342, Aerobatic Team “Piratas”, circa 1956, Base Aerea La Aurora, Guatemala City
-
P-51D, 342, Aerobatic Team “Piratas”, circa 1958, Base Aerea La Aurora, Guatemala City
-
P-51D, 321, Aerobatic Team “Piratas”, circa 1957, Base Aerea La Aurora, Guatemala City
-
P-51D, 318, circa 1958, Base Aerea La Aurora, Guatemala City
-
P-51D, 336, circa 1959, Base Aerea La Aurora, Guatemala City
-
P-51D, 354, circa 1967, Base Aerea La Aurora, Guatemala City
Paint call outs for the painting of the aircraft is for Humbrol, Gunze, Vallejo and Tamiya. This will certainly cover many modellers choice of paint.
These Guatemalan air force set of decals certainly offers some great and colourful schemes for the P-51D Mustang. As offerings from a young company, they show great promise. Well recommended.
Thanks to TG Decals for the sample.
