P-51D Mustang Canopy
Aerocraft Models, 1/32 scale
Reviewed by Brett Green
Revell's 1/32 scale P-51D Mustang is a great value kit, bit one of the common complaints is that the canopy is distorted.
Aerocraft Models has addressed this with a simple two-piece drop-fit replacement in clear cast resin.
The parts will require careful removal from their casting strips.
The clear parts will benefit from a quick bath in Future floor polish or one of its equivalents.
The resin is remarkably thin and completely free from distortion.
This will be a handy update for Revell's otherwise very respectable 1/32 scale P-51D Mustang.
Here is some additionl information from Ali at Aerocraft:
"This is a totally reworked set of canopies. The master for the main canopy section was totally replaced with making use of a vac-form section, this was to remove the excessive distortion that was in the kit part. That was then carefully added to the main frame work, so that all of the internal kit parts could be added, as shown in the picture.
The screen section has been carefully had all details removed and the distortion flow marks carefully sanded out of the original and then all the frame work was reapplied.
This is the longest that any product that I have done has taken to get to the market, 2 years ago I announced it. At long last I have something that I am happy will help and please many modellers.
These clear resin parts can be buffed with normal buffing sponges and shiners sold by many vendors, nail bars and modelling companies. It is best not to use aggressive sanding materials, other tan where to assist in trimming the casting material.
Also use you favourite, clear dipping liquid to enhance clarity if desired.
I will write up a few hints and tips for a down loadable instruction soon."
Thanks to Aerocraft Models for the sample.
