Description

After a long time in the stash I took the Special Hobby X-15 box to my bench for what should turn out as a real treat to build and not at least to paint.

The somewhat older X-15 kit in 1/48 scale is not available anymore. I have been lucky to find it at a show some years ago.

The kit is rather easy to build. Very few parts when presented in flying condition it was quickly assembled, though I made the complete cockpit. Just had to know it is in there..

Painting the not all black was the real challenge and it kept me busy thinking how to do.

In the end I ended up using a lot of masking tape, grey colours and get around without using black until the very end. It had to get the different black’ish tints on the panels.

For a long time I was not sure if I wanted the tanks on or not. The slick fuselage alone is interesting to the viewer, but I am pleased to have them present.
