Conclusion: I am delighted to see this release as it includes my all-time favourite Spitfire MkXIV markings (2I-M). This is a gorgeous set of decals with three pieces of frameable artwork. The quality and research is obvious too.

Exito Decals is a relatively new company that is building a reputation for thorough research and high quality frameable artwork.

Today I am examining their 1/48 scale Item No. ED48005, "Supermarine Spitfire FR.Mk.XIVe Sweet Fourteens". This covers three Spitfire FR.Mk.XIVe subjects

The set comprises an A4 cover sheet plus three A4-sized glossy cardboard sheet in landscape formats. The front of each sheet features two side views of one aircraft and a brief description at the bottom of the page. These are high-quality frameable artworks.

 

 

The rear of each cardboard sheet offers upper plan view, scrap views, multiple historical photos, additional notes, colour callouts, references and assistance for decal placement.

The lovely illustrations are the work of Janusz Swiatlon.

Details of the three subjects are:

  • Spitfire FR Mk.XIVe (TZ112), coded DN-Y of No. 416 Sqn RCAF, Uetersen, Germany, December 1945-January 1946. This is a rare subject with striking nose art.

  • Spitfire FR Mk.XIVe (TZ198), coded 2I-M of No. 443 Sqn RCAF, Uetersen, Germany, January 1946. This is an ex-RAAF aircraft depicted in service with 443 Sqn RCAF. It wears markings from the Australian and Canadian Squadrons, and also features a yellow spinner spiral.

  • Spitfire FR Mk.XIVe (SM937), coded 62 of No. 151 OTU, Peshawar or Ambala, British India, 1946. SEAC camouflaged subject with white theatre markings.

None of these subjects have been available in decal form in either 1/48 or 1/72 scales before.

Alternative code letters in Sky and White are included for the two subjects based in Germany.

 

 

The Cartograf decals are as well presented as you would expect with perfect registration and printing.

 

 

Conclusion

 

I am delighted to see this release as it includes my all-time favourite Spitfire MkXIV markings (2I-M).

This is a gorgeous set of decals with three pieces of frameable artwork.

The quality and research is obvious too
