FirstLook

 

This decal set, produced by DXM, who have previously released some really interesting anniversary schemes, is an interesting pair of schemes for the US Navy’s VFA-102 Diamondbacks in over a 10 year period of time. The decals are printed by Cartograf, so you know they are of the best quality and will ultimately go down well on your model.

 

 

There are 2 A5 sheets and one small sheet of decals that cover 2 different anniversary or display schemes of the Diamondbacks Super Hornet aircraft.

 

 

The aircraft covered are;

  • Bu No. 165882  F/A-18F, ‘102’ 50th Anniversary, Atsugi Air Base, 2005 – this is the all red spined aircraft that is well known.

  • Bu No. 166917  F/A-18F, ‘102’ 60th Anniversary, Atsugi Air Base, 2015 – a more subdued  scheme with smaller red flashes and no red tails.

Detail is crisp and appear to be in perfect register. Many of the decals are quite large, and will need care in their placement to ensure minimum moving to reduce the risk of tearing.

 

 

The instructions have most adequate detail on them, with colour call outs for Gunze Mr Color, Humbrol and where possible FS Standards numbers. The decals are sized for the Hasegawa kits I believe (nothing written) but I’m sure they will fit on the Revell, Italeri and Academy kits kit as well.


 

Conclusion

 

This is a very nice decal sheet with two interesting schemes. If you have a bit of an F/A-18F or USN Anniversary scheme obsession this set will give you two very nice marking options..
