Hot on the heels of its gorgeous 1/32 scale Beaufighter improvement sets, Model Monkey has now turned its attention to updating the classic Airfix 1/24 scale P-51D Mustang.

Please note that Model Monkey appears to take a different approach to either conventional resin casting or traditional 3D printing. It is in fact 3D printed resin, not the usual nylon material usually associated with printed parts.

The Airfix 1/24 scale P-51D Mustang dates back to 1973. It is a basic kit, especially in the wheel well which is almost non-existent.

Model Monkey's new 1/24 scale Mustang main wheel well set comprises seven parts in grey resin, packed lovingly in bubblewrap snd a stout cardboard mailing box. This will be suitable for P-51D and K versions.

Detail is just stunning.

The other notable factor is the attachment of the parts via a complex jumble of Medusa snake-like supports. You will want to allocate a bit of time to removing these and cleaning up any residue with a new hobby blade and sanding stick. Although it looks like the structure behind a grandstand here, it really should not be a complicated job.

 

 

The coolant pipe section is supplied as a separate insert.

 

 

Other detail parts in the set include the hydraulic accumalator, fuel tank selection valves and inner wheel well door actuators.
