The afterburner exhaust and nozzles on the later F-4 versions, which had the General Electric J-79-10 engines, were a fairly simple structure compared with later and more modern exhausts. They still have a good deal of detail within them which is much more noticeable if the exhaust is in the open position.
The set consists 6 resin parts with these being a pair flame stabilizers (holders), the tailpipes and the exhaust nozzles, with this set being the Open mode.
The tail pipes have supurb detail in them just crying out for good painting and weathering. Have fun though trying to airbrush that length of pipe.
The flame stabilizers (holders) have been produced with the multiple levels with in the real structure.
The box has no instructions but construction is very simple being only 3 parts for each engine. KA’s web site has some excellent coloured photos of completed units including some cutaway sectioned oned to give painting guidance but no actual colours named.I’ve put a couple of these here as well.
These Open and Closed sets from KA Models supplies excellent detail and choice for a reasonable price and between the 2 sets there are not many US versions of the F-4 not covered. I’m sure that these sets will also fit other brand kits. I’ve had a bit of a fiddle with fitting them on my Revell RF-4E Tiger Meet kit and they seem to be able to be used successfully so one would presume that other brand kits will fit them as well. These are recommended to builders of the F-4’s of many versions.
Thanks to KA Models for the sample.
