HMR 48016-3 - F-4 Phantom Canopy Details Set
Firstly, this canopy detail set comes in three versions. In numerical order they are for the Hasegawa, Academy and Zoukei Mura kits (1-3). The set I have is for the Z-M kits. These sets offer the possibility to build all F-4 versions canopies but there are no clear parts in this set. You will need to use the kit parts which will involve surgery for the Hasegawa as well as the Academy kit. Great care needs to be taken with the frame removal.
Detail parts for the inner canopies on F-4 Phantoms. The set comprises of 22 resin and 17 PE parts for windscreen, forward-, centre- and rear canopies and includes canopy actuator jacks, safety uplocks (optional installation), detailed downlocks, forward and rear compasses and various detail parts for the centre canopy section.
Parts are included for all major variants: F-4B/N, F-4C/D, F-4J/S, F-4E/EJ, F-4F and FG.1/FGR.2. Also included are parts for the VTAS system in the fron canopy on late F-4J's, F-4N and F-4S as well as two lengths of different diameter copper wire for cable detail. Depending on the version your build you will have left over parts.
The detail on the main canopy frames is on both inner and outer surfaces. The parts are all cast with flat surfaces attached to the casting blocks. There are a number of fine resin parts, like the mirrors, so great care will be needed to removed them and clean them up. The etched parts vary according to the version but are fine and nicely detailed.
There are 4 pages of detailed instruction to help you with the last page giving you all of the different version layouts of parts and instrumentation and wiring. That is worth keeping for any other F-4 Phantom builds.
This correction set will certainly add some quality detail to your models but be warned, it is more suitable for the intermediate and advance modeller due to the nature of the construction and kit surgery required to use it.
It’s also nice to see a new manufacturer of resin come into the hobby.
Recommended for experienced builders of the venerable F-4.
