FirstLook

Aerocraft Models has released three upgrade sets for the recent Airfix 1/48 scale Hawker Hunter kit:

Four Corrected Wing Pylons - £5.00

This set is made up from four parts in perfectly cast light grey resin, which correct the size and shape of the kit parts. The kit parts are noticeably undersized and the outboard pylons lack the upper and lower fairings that are a feature of the real thing.

These will be a simple drop-fit replacement

Flaps, Ailerons and Speed Brakes - £9.00

Aerocraft also released a set of flaps, ailerons and speed brakes. The big benefit here is the detailed inner surface of the flaps, which are totally featureless on the kit parts.

The speed brake inner surface is also better detailed than the kit part, and it does not suffer from the prominent ejector pin marks.

These are also dro-fit replacement for the kit parts.

Brass Undercarriage - £13.00

This set includes full repalcement main and nose undercarriage legs. I always think that brass undercarriage offers a luxurious finishing touch to a model. Metal undercarriage also allows the ability to adjust rake and splay after the parts are glued in place.

The brass legs are free from any seam lines and perfectly cast.

The nose gear is better detailed than the kit part. A resin nose wheel is also included.

This is spoked (as opposed to the plain hub in the kit part) and perfectly cast.

Conclusion

These are all worthwhile and easy to install updates to the new Airfix 1/48 scale Hawker Hunter.

Thanks to Aerocraft Models for the sample.
