With all of the recent 1/72 scale decal releases for the new and forthcoming Airfix Phantom FG.1 and FGR.2 kits, we 1/48 scale modellers were bound to get some benefit eventually.

The time has now come with Xtradecal releasing a new decal set for four varied and colourful Phantom FG.1s in 1/48 scale.

Xtradecal offers four varied schemes for unique British Phantom FG.1. Details are as follows:

  • XV590 001/R892 NAS HMS Ark Royal with Anniversary markings on nose and as cross decked with USS Saratoga 1978

  • XT597 A & AEE RAF Boscombe Down Raspberry Ripple scheme. This aircraft spent it's entire life at Boscombe;

  • XV571 was always with 43 Sqn coded A and used as the CO's aircraft.

  • XV571/A 43 Sqn RAF Leuchars Grey/green camouflage scheme at Greenham Common 1974;

  • XV574/Z 111 Sqn Grey camouflage scheme with black spine and fin with yellow flash, RAF Leuchars at Fairford IAT 1989;

Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across one folded double-sided A4 and one double-sided A5 sheets. Both side plus upper and lower views are provided for all four aircraft.

National markings are included.

Colour notes are offered, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.

The decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film.

There is one full sized sheet and another partial sheet with additional markings in black and white.
