Xtradecal has released a new decal sheet covering four Me 262 B-1a aircraft in five schemes in 1/32 scale. These will be suitable for either the new Revell kit or the older (but still pretty respectable) Trumpeter offering.

If you haven't purchased a kit yet, I would recommend the Revell 1/32 scale Me 262 B-1a over the Trumpeter kit.

Please note that both kits represent the night fighter version, so some modifications will be required in the cockpits if you are planning to use either of the two trainer subjects. Also, the cockpit was subtly different, which might be a bit trickier to achieve if you want 100% acccuracy. According to respected researcher Radu Brinzan, the trainer canopy was taller and did not feature the canopy jettison frame at the bottom. Check your references.

Day fighter and night fighter schemes are offered here. There is some room for interpretation of the colours of the night fighters (greens / browns vs. greys) and their order of application (dark mottles over RLM 76 vs. pale overspray of day fighter camouflage - the latter makes the most sense to me). Check reference photos and see what you think.

Details of the four aircraft are as follows:

  • W.Nr 111643 B3+ZM 4/KG(J)54 Found at Vlatov Czechoslovakia;

  • WNr 111639 possibly NAGr6 now at NSA Willow Grove USA;

  • WWNr 110635 Red 10 IV/NGJ11 Schleswig in Luftwaffe or RAF Markings;

  • WNr 110306 Red 9 IV/NGJ11 in USAF markings;

Instructions for the decal sheet are in full colour across one folded double-sided A4 and one double-sided A5 sheet. Both side views plus upper and lower views are provided for all four aircraft.

A selection of German, British and US national markings is included.

Colour notes are offered, along with model paint callouts for Xtracolor enamels and Xtracrylix acrylics.

As usual, the decals are beautifully printed and feature thin carrier film.

This new Xtradecal release will be very welcome for anyone building the Revell or Trumpeter 1/32 scale Me 262 B-1a kits.
