Eagle Editions has released a new 1/48 scale decal sheet for 1/48 scale Messerschmitt Me 262 night fighters of NJG 11 (one of these is shown in captured US markings). Kits are currently available from Dragon and Hobby Boss.

These are also available in 1/32 scale (previously reviewed on HyperScale by James Hatch) and 1/72 scale.

The decals are beautifully printed on a single sheet. There is no mention of who printed them but they are in perfect register and colours look good. National markings are offered, including two-part hakenkreuze for the fin.

Stencil markings are also provided.

The instruction artwork by James Bentley features finely reproduced halftones, weathering plus realistic depiction of light and shade. The large versions of these illustrations are very attractive.

Upper and lower views are included too.

In common with earlier EagleCals releases, the research behind these decals and the artwork is very good. In addition to the colour marking guide, a helpful text description of each aircraft is provided for the three subects. A full-page stencil placement guide is another useful feature.

The specific details of the three subjects are as follows:

  • "Red 10" Me 262 B-1a/U1, W.Nr. 110635, NJG 11 - Upper fuselage finished in RLM 76 oversprayed with RLM 02 Grey and mottled with RLM 81 and 82. Wings and upper nacelles in solid RLM 83. Lower surfaces in RLM 22 Black.

  • "Red 8" Me 262 B-1a/U1, W.Nr. 110305, NJG 11 - Fuselage and wing upper surfaces oberall RLM 76 Light Blue with RLM 75 Grey Violet mottles and squiggles. Upper horizontal tail surfaces RLM 81 or RLM 83. RLM 22 Black lower surfaces.

  • "Ole Fruit Cake" Me 262 B-1a/U1, W.Nr. 110306, Watson's Whizzers - - Upper fuselage finished in RLM 76 mottled with RLM 02 and 75. Wings and upper nacelles in solid RLM 83. Lower surfaces in RLM 22 Black. Nose cone, fin cap and windshield framing in Insignia Red.

These are very interesting subjects.
