Airfix's 1/48 scale
Hawker Sea Fury FB.11

Meng's 1/48 scale F-35A Lightning II is available online from Squadron for USD$59.99
Here's my second completion for 2018 - the new Airfix 1/48 scale Hawker Sea Fury FB.11.

This is without doubt the best Sea Fury kit available in 1/48 scale, but it is quite frustrating in some respects. My kit suffered a short shot fin, poor moulding of the engine cowlings, overly soft plastic, some exaggerated surface textures and Airfix has omitted the gunsight.

Despite this, fit was generally good (except for the cowl) and sometimes excellent (I didn't need to use glue on the propeller assembly and the landing gear is well designed).

The model was built almost straight from the box - I did use Eduard Steel harness straps as Airfix does not offer any harness options - and decals were from Xtradecal Item No. X48175 - Hawker Sea Fury Collection.

The Airfix kit will be compared against the Hobbycraft and Trumpeter kits, with builds of all three in Issue 85 of Military Illustrated Modeller magazine.

Model purchased by me.
