II./St.G. 77 was formed in Breslau-Schöngarten from II./St.G.165 with Clemens Graf von Shönborn-Wiesentheid as Geschwaderkommodore on 1 May, 1939.

The German propaganda magazine Signal supported the event and published some pictures of what would soon become the symbol of terror amongst civilian population.

NG Models have covered six variations on the theme with this decal release, including extensive research that has identified new Stammkennzeichen codes from famous propaganda colour photos

The most striking of the six is the famous Shark Mouth. Two versions of this aircraft are included, one with the code VK+ER. and the second with S2+AC. The individual aircraft letter "A" is painted green in this second option.

The instructions suggest that these aircraft were probably delivered in the standard scheme of RLM 70 Black Green and RLM 71 Dark Green over RLM 65 Light Blue (or possible three-colour upper surfaces), but that they seem to have been repainted in a single colour, most likely RLM 70.

The instructions point out that this is just their most probable interpretation based on close-up viewing of reference photos, so nobody should get their noses out of joint if you decide to paint yours in a low-contrast splinter scheme!

Two decal sheets are included - one full-sized and one smaller. The decala are printed perfectly by Cartograph.

Stencils are included, as are four different sizes of under wing crosses - 1800mm, 1700 mm, 1600mm and 1500 mm

Another bonus is the inclusion of swatikas, which are not supplied in the Airfix kit.

A large folded double-sided A3 sheet provides colour profiles, upper and lower views, stencil marking guide and extensive reference and lists of observations.

Conclusion

This is a high quality and well researched release. It is especially welcome timing with the recent appearance of the Airfix 1/48 scale Junkers Ju 87 B-1 Stuka.

I reckon that kit will look pretty mean with a shark mouth!

Highly Recommended.

Thanks to NG Models for the information and images.
