Well you can trust Lifelike to do a unique job in covering subjects and this sheet is no different.  This sheet ‘ONLY’ covers two aircraft, but what it does if follow Col. John Landers.  Now you may say why just his aircraft, but these two aircraft cover four different squadrons and each one has unique markings.

Lifelike has done some great research on this pilot’s P-51s.  All of them are named ‘Big Beautiful Doll’.  The first P-51 is a D-5 without the fillet on the tail.  The other one is the P-51 that we all associate with Col. Landers, his D-20, but guess what?  It doesn’t always have the checkered nose.  Every seen it with a yellow nose?  Well now you have.

Included in the ziplock baggie are two instruction sheets printed in full color on A4 single sided sheets that cover the aircraft.  The history of each paint scheme is included as well as the reference which shows the scheme.  One sheet shows the profiles on both sides of the nose.  Another half sheet shows the stencil locations for the P-51.

The decals are simply perfect.  They are printed by Cartograf and Microscale so you have the two best decal producers in the world.  The colors are spot on, opaque, in register and very thin.  The decals are on four separate sheets.  The first is the largest and covers the checkers and many of the ‘plain’ squadron codes.  The next sheet has the US Stars and Bars including the greyed out ones for one of the options.  The third sheet contains the markings for kill markings and the common ‘Big Beautiful Doll’ nose art.  The last is the canopy frame words for one of the options.

Conclusion

Lifelike continues to produce some of the best researched decals on the market.  This sheet is indicative of that professional product.  You want colorful?  This sheet has it in spades or should I say checkers?  While designed for the Tamiya kit I’m sure it will work without any problems on the Meng kit.

Thanks to Lifelike Decals for these samples.
