DKdecals already has a large and growing range of 1/72 and 1/48 scale decals with a focus on aircraft in Commonwealth service.

DKdecals has now expanded their range to include 1/32 scale decals.

Set No. 32004, P-40N Warhawk and Kittyhawk Mk.IV, offers nine marking options for three RAAF Kittyhawk Mk.IVs plus six USAAF P-40Ns all based in and around Australia and New Guinea, with one Canadian odd man out finished in Dark Green and Sea Grey upper surfaces over Sky Grey, operating around Patricia Bay in British Columbia.

Please note that several of these aircraft are P-40N-1s, which were fitted with the early style canopy and in some cases only four wing guns. Check your references for specific subjects.

The ten aircraft are as follows:

  • Kittyhawk Mk.IV, 864, No.133 Sq. RCAF, Patricia Bay 1944

  • P-40N-5, Lt. Richard L. West, 35th FS, 8th FG, New Guinea 1944

  • P-40N Warhawk, Lt. A. Bridge, 45th FS, 15th FG, Makin 1944

  • P-40N-5, CO Arland Stanton, 7th FS, 49th FG, New Guinea 1944

  • P-40N, Maj. G.R. Johnson, 7th FS, 49th FG, Hollandia 1944

  • P-40N, 8th FS, 49th FG, New Guinea 1944

  • P-40N-30, CO Maj Ben Preston, 13th FG, Middleburg Island 1944

Research looks to be thorough, with faded Sky Blue codes supplied for two of the RAAF options.

Although not mentioned in the instructions, DKdecals supplies alternative Sky Blue "Z" letters for the P-40N-1 "Come in Suckers". Some sources claim that the codes are HU-Z and not HU-L. It's nice to be given the choice.

There are some colourful artworks and a great deal of variety of camouflage and markings amongst these options. They range from bare metal to Foliage Green and Earth Brown to Coral Sand to Olive Drab - it's an earth toned rainbow!

Instructions are printed on a double-sided A4 sheet folded into three. Colour left views are supplied for all aircraft, plus right nose and upper views where required.

USAAF, RAAF and RAF national markings are included. Colour callouts are suggested from the Humbrol and Agama ranges.

The decals themselves are supplied on four narrow sheets, so they fit into a relatively compact plastic bag. Colour and registration is very good on my sample.

There is no mention of who printed these, but the decals are glossy and saturation looks good, even for the tricky yellows and whites.
