These wheels are far superior to the vinyl equivalents in Revell’s and Tamiya’s big Eagles, and therefore a close-to-essential investment for anyone building the appropriate versions of these kits. |

If you want a 1/32 F-15 your only options are from Revell and Tamiya, which date from the 1980s and 1990s respectively. These kits require some aftermarket help to be brought up to modern standards. For example both Revell and Tamiya only provide vinyl tyres, which many modellers today (myself included) don’t like to use.
There appears to have been only a few aftermarket sets released that address this issue. Contact Resine made a set of beautiful resin wheels for the Tamiya kit in the mid-2000s, but these are now hard to find. Still available, and also very nice, are North Star’s 1/32 F-15 E/I/K wheels. And for those who want to model the F-15 A, B, C or D, Czech company RES-IM Resin Improvement has released an excellent wheel set aimed specifically at these variants.
RES-IM’s F-15 wheels are packed in a small but robust box that should ensure they arrive undamaged. The set contains three parts: one nosewheel and two mainwheels. These are attached to their casting blocks by narrow rebates that will make removal and cleanup straightforward.
Casting quality is very good, with no pinholes or distortion apparent. Hub and tyre detail is excellent. The former includes delicate inboard brake and outboard spoke details, while the latter features legible manufacturer’s logos and pressure guidelines.
Unlike the North Star wheels, RES-IM’s don’t feature separate hubs. This will complicate painting, but in my view only slightly.
I’ll leave the final word on accuracy to those with more knowledge on F-15s than myself. However RES-IM’s wheels look good next to online photos of the real things – and they are far superior to the kit equivalent that they are intended to replace.
No instructions are included, nor necessary.
RES-IM’s 1/32 F-15 A/B/C/D wheels are a close to essential aftermarket investment for anyone building these versions of Revell’s or Tamiya’s big Eagle.
