One of the most successful constructions of Juan de la Cierva, inventor and promoter of the „autogiro“, was the Cierva C.30. License build versions of this versatile autogiro have been built in Germany, Britain, Poland and, as seen here, in France.

About 60 LeO C.30 have been manufactured fo rthe French Army and Navy. These machines have been powered by a Salmson 9Ne engine, a fact which is nicely represented in the RS Models boxing.

The kit presents a countable number of parts, which are executed in a way typical for such a short run kit. Of course you have to be careful cutting off and handling the numerous tiny parts. The plastic proved to be rather brittle. That´s no multi-media kit by the way, you will find plastic parts only.

The LeO C.30 was build out of the box except the wiring of the radial engine.

I found the decals to be of excellent quality. Four marking options are provided, I did choose a French Navy observer, but you could also build a French Army autogiro as well one Polish and a German one manufactured by Focke Wulf.

My model depicts a French LeO C.30 flown by the Navy, stationed in Hyere, near Toulon, in 1936.
