This is my Hawker Hurricane Mk.V converted from the Hasegawa Hurricane Mk.IID in 1/48th scale.
The Mk.V was powered by a 1645hp Merlin 32 engine, with a Rotol four-blade propeller. Three aircraft was built in 1943. Two of these was converted from a Mk.IV in March 1943 (KX405 and KZ193), and one built as Mk.V (NL255). The Mk.V KZ193 was armed with two Vickers 40mm guns in gondola, and two 0.303 Browning guns in the wings. The aircraft was fitted with a Vokes filter and an armoured radiator. Trials was realised at Boscombe Down. As the general performance was not significantly improved, KZ193 was retrofitted as Mk.IV in July 1943.
For this conversion, I have modified the kit spinner for a four-blade propeller. I duplicated one blade in resin from the original plastic blade. I used the SAM Publications MK.IV resin conversion set for the armoured radiator, the Brengun resin set for the wheel wells, and resin exhausts and four spoke wheels from Ultracast. Vickers 40mm guns was redone with plastic tubes, and I added a small teardrop bulge on wings.
The kit was painted with Tamiya mixes in the temperate scheme (Dark Green and Ocean Grey over Medium Sea Grey). Decals came from Xtradecal sheets. The built of diorama base was very simple : a printed concrete cardboard from Verlinden and a small part of Model-Scene mat foliage. The mechanic and the dog are from an ICM box. The trolley accumulator comes from a Revell set.
Best regards from France !
